The Wild FAQ

Why The Wild?

Traditional online dating and apps have been damaging our social interactions, so we built The Wild. When you "match" on a regular dating app, you begin building a first impression of that person by how you interpret their messages. Messages are stripped of personality, tone and emotion, so the way you interpret it might be off just a bit. You eventually build a persona of that person based solely on the text messages you exchange and their photos, then when you finally meet in person, something seems "off". This is because a true first impression must happen in person. This is why we built The Wild.

What is The Wild?

The Wild is less of a dating app and more a tool to guide you back to meeting in person, organically. On The Wild, theres no messaging other users because we want you to meet them naturally out in the wild. You simply tell us about yourself and what you\'re looking for, then we plot your potential matches on a map (anonymously). You use this information to make informed decisions on where to go so you have a higher chance of meeting someone you might actually like. Remember, there may not be a lot of matches online at any given time, so check back often, esp during the busy 'going out' times. We're growing fast, so more matches are joining every day!

How does it work?

It's Friday night. You start up the The Wild app and go "Online". You see that the bar you usually go to downtown has 4 potential matches. But, right across the street theres a bar with 24 potential matches. You decide to 'The Wild' your plans to the bar across the street with an added confidence boost knowing 24 matches there are looking for someone like you!

Is it safe?

Yes! we know it's a crazy world, so we've built The Wild with every aspect of our user's safety in mind. Privacy areas are places where even if you are online and you enter in them, your location will be hidden and you will not be visible to anyone. We recommend setting a privacy area around your home or work, so if you forget to go offline the app will automatically hide you at those places. Your location is also only updated once every few minutes, not real-time. When you go online, by default you are anonymous to other matches. They can only view basic info about you and how well you both match. You'll also notice while you are online if you start to move (walk, drive, etc.), the app pauses your location from updating to your matches.

Background Location

This is required for the platform to function correctly. When you go online, we show you where your potential matches are. You are also a potential match to every one of those users. Only while online, you are shown as a match pin to other users that you match with. Your location is updated every few minutes until you either go offline or enter a privacy area.

Messaging

Platinum members have the ability to send their matches a message when they are at the same location. Even if you're not a Platinum member, you can still receive messages from one. You can enable/disable messaging in your inbox or on the settings tab.

Show/Hide your photos

Wanna have a higher chance of meeting one of those potential matches? You can use a photo credit to un-hide your profile photos to allow other users to view them. Now, when you're in that bar with 24 potential matches, your chances of meeting one of them is even higher. Don't worry, you can hide/un-hide your photo whenever you please during the 24 hours after using the photo credit. Platinum members have unlimited credits.

What are Feeds?

Feeds are a geo-fence around any business or location that anyone can follow. Create a feed around the bars you usually go to. You will see the content of every feed you follow on the feed tab similar to an Instagram feed. The catch is, only people who are physically inside the geo-fence boundary can upload a photo to that feed. This allows you to see inside that place to see how it looks before you go.
